Known as the "Sunshine State", Queensland is a popular tourist destination among Australians as well as a great place to call home. Queensland covers a total of 1.7 million (square kilometres) and is the countries third most populous state with a current population of around 4.45 million. This number is predicted to grow and reach 8.7 million by the year 2056.Brisbane, the state's capital is home to almost half the population and is located in the State's south east corner. The city is built on and named after the Brisbane River, which winds through the city and provides an excellent method of exploring the city's culture. Brisbane has played host to several international sporting events including the 1982 Commonwealth Games and a variety of international cricket matches at the city's "Gabba" cricket ground.
Queensland sees 300 days of sunshine on average each year. The State averages a winter temperature of around 15 (degrees c) but warms up in summer to reach a pleasant average of 25 (degrees c). Queensland is home to some of the world's best beaches and locals are frequently found there in their spare time.
Business taxes are quite low in Queensland which has led to many businesses setting up in the State for the perfect combination of a work/life balance. Famous sights such as the Great Barrier Reef, the tropical rainforests and the vast sandy beaches attract thousands of tourists each year, creating a booming tourism industry throughout the State.
